Today's Assignments
Iowa History: We have been learning about the Native American groups that first lived in Iowa. Today we focused on the Mound Builders. We've read and discussed the importance of the their burial customs. The students made their own replicas of an "Effigy Mound". We used edible supplies to replicate one. Please ask your child about the steps they had to take to make a complete mound.
Math: Students took their chapter test today. I will correct them over the weekend. We will discuss their questions and see if we need any extra practice. :)
Students need to complete the Drops questions 9 and 10 by Monday!
Social Studies: Students need to complete D.O.G 14-7 and 14-8 by Monday.

Exploratory: No homework! Students have been working on "positive thinking" posters to help motivate students to do their best. They will be hanging in the hallways soon!
Math: Multiplication Patterns worksheet and finish answering their multiplication flashcards. Students are beginning chapter 2 dealing with multiplication of whole numbers and decimals. Each students has his/her own set of flashcards. Please have your child practice his/her cards daily at home. This will help them in the long run.
Social Studies: D.O.G Questions 7-7 and 7-8. Finish creating and coloring their "kachina" doll. They need to be glued onto a piece of cardboard (cereal box, etc.) so they can be sturdy. Students are learning about the Hopi Native American tribe and their ways of life. This group believed in over 250 spirits. Students were asked to design their own spirit. Be creative.

What a great start back to school! We had the chance to share some information with one another, made flowers with pictures on them to add to our flower pots and wrote "Biopoems" to hang on the lockers.
